"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
Hello! My name is Aaron Wheeler, and I am a Magician!
I've said that for so long, I almost forgot how it all came to be. Let me start at the beginning...
On January 20th, I was born in Seattle, Washington. Growing up, my mother would tell you that I was destined to be a performer - possibly because I wore a cape to kindertarden and created comical banter with a puppet during my grade school talent show. Among many other "embarrassing" childhood stories my mother could tell you, you would also hear that I had always been fascinated by magic.
I didn't get really serious about becoming a magician until after seeing a magic show on a family vacation. I remember telling my mom the next day while crossing the street, 'That's what I want to do!' Upon returning home, I attended a meeting of the local magic club, where I learned a few tricks and went home to practice.
Eventually, I was performing in annual benefit shows with the club - then one day the phone rang. It was a mom asking me about performing for her son's birthday party. At the time, I wasn't much older than her son and the idea of performing an entire 30 minute show by myself was just a little daunting! What she asked me next though was even more surprising. 'How much do you charge?' At 13 years old,
I can remember how crazy this idea was...I was now a professional! When I got the check in my hand, I felt like the richest kid in the world.
Over the next several years, I would work on fine tuning my show, performing for more and more clients each year. Being young and shy, the magic club would coin the nickname "Smiley" for me, to encourage me to...SMILE. In high school, most people would tell you that I was quiet - that is until my junior year, when I entered the talent show. The overwhelming response pushed me closer to my dream of performing. The crowd loved it!
Not too much later, I registered for a convention for Magicians called the Pacific Coast Association of Magicians. This event featured Magicians from all over the world and included the chance to compete in various categories of magic - I signed up to compete in Stage Magic. This was my first time competing, I had no idea how I would do, but I was there for the experience and to have fun. The next thing I knew, they were announcing that I had won! After that, I was invited by the president of the Magic Castle in Hollywood to perform for a week at the prestigious venue. It was a dream come true! Over the following years, I would be honored with more awards and my performances would become larger, doing tricks I had only seen on TV. I was living my dream!
I've come a long way since my first performance. Today I perform magic professionally for private parties, corporate gatherings, theaters, and festivals, for audiences as large as 1,400 people. People often tell me how amazing my job is and that they wish they could follow their passion. For those of you who feel the same way, remember this:
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined!" - Henry David Thoreau
I could not have gotten here if I didn't think that it was possible, or if I didn't have people who believed in me. No matter what your dreams are, I know they are possible!
All the best -
